I'm Mary J. Welty, artist, with my personal greeter Bullet. I have been creating art all my life, selling my first etching when I was in the 8th grade. I grew up with my first horse, Rex, for 20 years. I had a great childhood and Rex taught me a lot. Life in the country is where I've been for the majortity of time. I've painted from life and taken art here and there when available. Mostly I am self-taught. I enjoy letting my spirit and energy direct me to the next art project.
My gallery is located at 424 Broadway, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901, 575-894-0095 where you can reach me from 11-6 daily, closed Thursdays.
The gallery houses hundreds of original paintings in multi-media, multi-sizes and multi-subject matter. About half of the art in the gallery is oil and half is acrylic. Much of the art is impressioinism but you will also see a nice selection of realism. I have been painting ducks for around 15 years, competing for state and federal duck stamp competitions, so you will see some of the originals for those projects.
The Federal Duck Stamp Competition is the most prestigious show for artists to compete in and one day win. I have placed 5th and 10th so far and have been in the top 20% of the show for many years. Go to the http://www.fws.org site to learn about the history of the show.
The Colorado Ducks Unlimited program had me paint the sponsor print for their project for three years.
In the Gallery there are wire sculptures, clay sculptures and some bronzes in the collection to purchase. You will also find an ice cream parlor located in the back of the gallery.
My work is also represented at the Natural Accents Gallery in Taos, The Jackalope in Santa Fe, Santa Fe Fine Art Brokerage in Santa Fe, Cimarron Rose B&B in Grants, NM, Trail of Dreams Gallery in Truth or Consequences, NM.
I am enjoying living a mile and a half from work and getting to know the local people.
